Point in time when character has been taken from canon: The beginning of Death: The High Cost of Living (roughly two hours into the mortal day)
Character history: In the beginning there was Destiny. Then, before the first living thing was born, Death came to be. She was followed by the other five Endless (Dream, Destruction, Desire, Despair and Delight).
At first, being Death wasn’t too bad a deal. She was and remains responsible for birth as well as death. Everything was new and living things were born died with as much enthusiasm as they undertook any other new experience. Eventually life began to fear and despise Death. This made her rather depressed and eventually led to her outright refusing to do her job.
Eventually a mortal tracked her down and made her look at the chaos that had arisen when nothing down to the simplest bacteria could die. That was all it took for her to go back to work. However, she became hard and brittle until the day a young girl asked her how she would like it if it happened to her.
That was when Death decided to spend one day out of every century as a mortal to learn about life. After the first day, she had some rather unflattering words for herself. The most important message was that what people really needed when they died was a friend. After that she became a lot cheerier and learned to like her job, since she gets to meet all sorts of interesting people.
One of the hardest parts of the job was when Death had to collect her younger sister Despair. Little is known of the circumstances behind the first Despair’s death, but as the concept of despair cannot be killed, a new aspect of it took up the mantle of Endless. Though Death was sad about what happened, she didn’t let it get her down in the long run and accepted the new Despair readily.
The Endless are far from the most functional family. Her beloved brother Dream had a son Orpheus. After his wife died on their wedding day, Orpheus begged Death to allow him to enter into the Underworld unharmed. Death was reluctant, but ultimately gave her nephew what he wanted. It… didn’t work out so well. Orpheus was unsuccessful in retrieving his wife, but was still unable to die for millennia.
Things got even worse after Destruction walked out on the family. The siblings already seldom saw each other, but it got much worse once Destruction was no longer there to smooth over arguments. Death continue to visit her siblings, but they remained uncomfortable entering each other’s realms.
In the early 20th century, a group tried to imprison Death so that nothing could die (hey, the last time it happened was roughly ten billion years ago, they couldn’t be expected to know). However, Death is not easily caught and they accidentally imprisoned her younger brother Dream instead. This caused Death no end of worry. Especially when he didn’t call her for help once he finally got out of the fish bowl seventy years later. That got a loaf of bread thrown at him. This started a turbulent period in Dream’s life that Death did her best to help him through. This period is still ongoing at the time of canon.
Death is being taken from the beginning of her one mortal day for that century. As a mortal, she assumed the identity of a sixteen year old girl named Didi. The universe creates a backstory and convinces the people around her that Didi has existed all along. The people in the neighborhood believed that they had known Didi all her life, and remember her parents and younger sister being killed month earlier when someone drove a car onto a crowded sidewalk.
Character personality (please also include how the stress of incarceration and the Warden's interference may affect your character. We realize that character interaction may influence and change this, however, certain aspects of your character's personality may be considered constant): Didi is a little ray of sunshine. She absolutely adores being alive and is enjoying everything. Yes, she’ll even somehow manage to enjoy prison. Not as much as some of the other activities she’s gotten up to on her mortal days, but she’s not going to let it get her down.
Didi absolutely adores everyone. Even the creepy people, because no one is creepy on the inside. She learned a long time ago that it’s just as easy to be nice as to be creepy and being nice is way more fun. She’s genuinely interested in everyone she meets and considers the people she meets to be the best part of her job.
For an anthropomorphic personification, Didi is really quite down to earth. All cheeriness aside, she’s still quite no nonsense. She empathizes with people, but when they need someone to pull them out of the funk, she’s not above throwing bread at them. Especially if they’re people she’s particularly close to.
Physical description: Didi is a cute goth girl, appearing about sixteen years old. She has a very pale complexion and black hair. She wears heavy eyeliner with an eye of Horus design under her right eyelid. She normally dresses in black, preferring jeans and a tank top to more traditional Grim Reaper garb. She adamantly refuses to get a scythe despite Destiny’s insistence. She does however wear her sigil, an ankh, on a necklace at all times.
Magical powers or special skills: As Didi, she has no powers whatsoever. It would wreck the whole mortal thing. The closest she has is a tendency for people to like her, but a lot of that is just her personality.
Any crimes committed in canon: None… I actually managed to get a character who didn’t commit ANY crimes in canon?
Crime incarcerated into Glaxcin for (this can be any crime(s) of your choosing, especially if the character is not a criminal in their canon): Jaywalking
